The film focuses on Philip Nevitsky, a film fan from Manchester who has been organising bi-monthly “film fairs” around the England, since 1977. These fairs, which deal in film memorabilia, will be coming to a close at the end of the year, so this film celebrates 33 years of these events and documents the end of an era.

The film features interview footage with Philip, telling us about his background and how he first became interested in films, how he began his working life and the events that led to him starting up his own film conventions as a career. We will hear how these events grew and developed, and also about his celebrity friends and visitors to these conventions, with Philip’s connections to the broadcasting, film and theatre industries.

We will follow Philip as he prepares and hosts one of his conventions in the centre of Manchester, from moving the stock from storage and setting up venue, right through to the event itself and eventually closing up for the day.

We will also hear from Philip’s long-standing assistants at the event, other stall holders and also regular attendees.

The film will explore how the explosion of the internet and multimedia platforms have transformed the distribution of film promotion, and how this has impacted the film fairs, which have traditionally traded in this sort of memorabilia. We will also hear how the ubiquity of such on-line stores as Amazon and Ebay have affected the fairs and what is sold there.

We will also hear Philip’s reflections on the future for both himself and the film fairs he has organised for over 30 years.
